it's night time. we're children at a birthday party in a small park across the street from our friend's house. everyone is carrying lanterns around, looking for little treasures hidden under rocks and behind trees, and surprising each other in the dark. in the lamplight everyone looks like an elegant mystery. later on, we can make a big peanut butter sandwich and fall asleep in our clothes. when tomorrow comes, and the party's over, and we find ourselves at home, somehow the world will seem bigger but we will feel a little smaller. despite this disappointment, we will long to fill our lives with beauty and joy, until we glow like a lantern, ourselves.

i love drawings and music and i love making drawings and music. i'm interested in both "analog" and "digital" versions of these activities: analog~ drawing on paper with ink, making hand made books, playing drums. digital~ digital collage, animation, electronic music, sound design. computers are just tools. i don't fetishise technology and i don't fetishise a lack of technology. just try to make beautiful stuff with some fun tools. i love abstraction but also figures and characters. i love artwork that combines abstraction with characters or figurative images. i love any music with soul or a deeply considered aesthetic, especially music that grooves like crazy. i'm a rhythm kid, ya know.

i make animated hand drawn images and shot footage for video that react to sound... it's hard to explain unless you see it. but a computer analyses the sound in the room, and the results of the sound analysis are used to determine how the images are shown.

my artwork has been shown in Metropolitan Museum in NY and bought by them and MOMA, and i've done a lot of kool fun video/audio shows. last year i put together an audio/video compilation for Lincoln Center as part of the New York Video Festival in the Walter Reade Theater. http://www.ax.to/syn
but mostly i enjoy traveling around, having cool shows with friends. i value people who have a love of life (even if they think life is often really kind of a cosmic joke), inner fire, passion, and/or creativity. i like joyful people but i'm not joyful 100% of the time, either. i just returned from shows in japan and amsterdam and the uk, where i met many beautiful friends, ate great food, and laughed until my face hurt.

i'm releasing some music on vinyl and CD with a few labels, including the Agriculture (New York), Unfoundsound (Philadelphia), Wave Music (New York), Staubgold (Berlin), and Audio.nl (Netherlands).
